Origins: The Afterburner BBS and Its Legacy
1983 — Before the modern internet, I began with BASIC programming with a Commodore VIC-20, then upgraded to a Commodore 64 with a 1200-baud Avatex modem. Using All American BBS software I started The Afterburner BBS. I customized it with BASIC code and other personality-driven features, creating a space for file sharing, messages, and chats — one user at a time.
The name “The Afterburner” I thought up back then was inspired from a 1985 album by ZZ Top titled Afterburner, which captured the era’s blend of rock energy and emerging mid 80’s visual technology.
That BBS experience directly inspired TA2Web today — “The Afterburner 2 Web.” From a single phone line and 1200-baud modem to a modern blog, the site still carries forward the spirit of connecting curious minds with classic tech to modern tech and nostalgia.
Independent, Curious, and Always Evolving
This site is intentionally diverse. Some articles focus on timeless music and influential artists, others explore real-world technology and digital tools, while select areas examine unexplained events, media oddities, and unanswered questions that continue to intrigue researchers and enthusiasts alike.
Our content is organized around a few core topics and sub-categories that include — and is definitely not limited to — areas like history, artificial intelligence, quantum computing advancements, space and deep-sea exploration, health, government transparency, unexplained media, web news (both real and questionable), various entertainment, and any other various casted or un-casted perceptions of our world as you or I have grown to know it over the last 35 to 40 years.
TA2Web is independently run and continually evolving. New content is added as ideas develop, interests expand, and better information becomes available. Some articles reflect personal experience, while others rely on public records, reputable news sources, and official documentation.
Looking Ahead
As the site grows, additional features, categories, and resources may be introduced. The goal is simple: to build a reliable, engaging space for people who enjoy discovering connections between music, media, technology, and the unexplained.
Thanks for stopping by — and welcome to TA2Web.
